NIKE PULLS BASKETBALL AD

Advertorial

After receiving complaints regarding its advertisements for the new Hyperdunk basketball shoe, Nike has scrapped its campaign.

The series of ads ran in Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York and other US cities and depicted basketball players having an opposing player ‘dunk’ over them with slogans like “That ain’t right” and “Isn’t that cute.”

Because of the positions the players were in, many believed the ads could be viewed as anti-gay.

In response to complaints, Nike issued a statement saying, “After listening to concerns expressed around specific executions, we have decided to drop them from the campaign to underline our ongoing commitment to supporting diversity in sport and the workplace.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, Wieden+Kennedy, the firm that designed the advertising campaign “countered with its own blog post titled ‘Hypersensitive, y’all?,’ a move that prompted a number of angry responses from both sides.”
