ELTON JOHN LABELLED A SINNER
The Orthodox Church in the Ukraine has slammed Sir Elton John’s plans to adopt an orphan boy, labelling the singer “a sinner”.
The Donetsk Diocese of the Orthodox Church was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying:”Thank God it’s impossible under Ukrainian law for Elton John to adopt a child.”
He added, “The Church is strictly against same-sex marriages and the damage they cause. It’s written in Holy Scriptures that homosexual marriage and relations is a sin.”
This came after government officials said that John was ineligible to adopt the child because only heterosexual married couples can do so in the Ukraine. At 62, John is also too old to adopt as the law requires the potential adopter to be no more than 45 years older than the child.
The legendary British performer expressed his interest in adopting 14 month old Lev to journalists during a visit to an orphanage in the Eastern European country for his Aids charity foundation on Saturday.
“…having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him. I don’t know how we do that but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David’s heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home,” John said at the time.
