ACTIVIST ATTACKED IN KENYA

A gay rights activist in Kenya has been attacked by his neighbours apparently because of his public support of LGBT rights, reports Behind The Mask (BTM).

Peter Wanyama, who works with Other Sheep Kenya – a Christian gay rights group – was allegedly beaten and kicked by neighbours after he discussed his support for LGBT equality with one man.

“When I told this young man about the rights for the LGBTI to live freely, he stood up and started shouting at the top of his voice calling his brothers and other relatives of his at the estate to come and beat me up because of my stand on homosexuals and their rights,” Wanyama told Ken Were, a BTM Correspondent.

He was left unconscious from the beating but was rescued by three female neighbours who called a friend to take him to the hospital.

Wanyama received head, facial and eye injuries as a result of the attack and was later discharged.

Police are reportedly investigating the assault but no suspects have yet been arrested. According to BTM, Wanyama and partner are currently staying at a safe house.
