Sixty-six Malaysian teens, who were identified as effeminate, have been sent to a camp to help them become more masculine and avoid ‘becoming’ gay, reports the Associated Press.

The teens, between the ages of 13 and 17, from the state of Terengganu were invited by their teachers for the apparently voluntary four day “self-development course”.

Education Director Razali Daud told AP that the camp aims “to guide them back to the right path in life before they reach a point of no return. Such effeminate behaviour is unnatural and will affect their studies and their future.”

He added: “It is not an overnight cure. Some effeminate boys end up as a transvestite or a homosexual, but we want to do our best to limit this.”

Homosexuality is illegal in the predominantly Muslim nation and carries penalties of up to 20 years in jail.
