American hip hop star T.I. has defended comedian and 30 Rock actor Tracy Morgan’s controversial anti-gay stand-up routine, saying that gay people are overly-sensitive.

“Man, I will say this, the funniest joke I ever heard Tracy (Morgan) say during a stand-up was, ‘C’mon man, I think gay people are too sensitive. If you can take a dick, you can take a joke.’ [Cracks up laughing.] That shit was funny to me. And it’s kind of true,” he told Vibe magazine in an interview.

The magazine said that “While T.I. makes clear that he supports anyone’s sexual preference, he then connects, in his opinion, a current oversensitivity among gay people with a consequential and ironic offense of the First Amendment”.

T.I. (31) went on to add: “They’re like, ‘If you have an opinion against us, we’re gonna shut you down.’… That’s not American. If you’re gay you should have the right to be gay in peace, and if you’re against it you should have the right to be against it in peace.”

Morgan apologised after a performance in Nashville in June in which he said that “gays need to quit being pussies and not be whining about something as insignificant as bullying”.

He said that being “gay is something that kids learn from the media and programming” and that if his son talks to him “in a gay voice… I’ll pull out a knife and stab that little n-gger to death.”

Morgan added that he didn’t care if he offended gay people “because if they can take a fucking dick up their ass… they can take a fucking joke”.

He later apologised and even met with young LGBT people and a family who had been affected by anti-gay violence.
