Dave Mustaine

The founder and frontman of American heavy metal band Megadeth says that he opposes same-sex marriage because he’s a Christian.

In an interview with KIRO 97.3 FM, Dave Mustaine was asked if he supports gay marriage rights.

“Well, since I’m not gay, the answer to that would be no,” said the 50-year-old rocker.

When asked again if he would support legislation to make marriage between a man and another man legal, Mustaine replied: “I’m Christian. The answer to that would be no.”

Gay blog Queerty commented on Mustaine’s statements by saying: “We’re sorry — we didn’t realise the guy who has albums called Killing Is My Business… and Business Is Good!, Rust in Peace and Youthinasia was a devout Christian.”

Mustaine was the first lead guitarist and a co-songwriter in Metallica until he was fired from the band in 1983 for excessive drinking, drug abuse, and aggressive behaviour.

After forming Megadeth, he became a born-again Christian and now reportedly refuses to play some of band’s older songs.

In 1988, when asked about the band Judas Priest, whose lead vocalist later came out as gay, he answered: “I don’t wanna talk about this. The last thing I need is a bunch of homos picketing us.”
