Lady Gaga has responded to a PETA letter about her wearing fur and implied that she doesn’t really care much about animal rights.

The pop singer was sent a letter from Dan Matthews, Senior Vice President of PETA, calling her out for previously insisting that she wouldn’t wear fur, but having since been photographed wearing various high-end fur items.

In 2009, Gaga told Ellen DeGeneres, “…I hate fur and I don’t wear fur,” but, as pointed out by Matthews, she has been recently snapped in fox and rabbit fur and in a promotional photo wearing what appears to be wolf.

“Many gays are animal advocates because we recognise that the same arrogance and indifference that some have toward animal suffering has at times been directed toward us personally because of our orientation,” wrote Matthews.

He added that Gaga risks making herself a target of animal rights activists “just like the mindless Kim Kardashian”.

Gaga, clearly not liking the implied threat, responded by simply tweeting: “For those press and such who are writing about whether or not my fur is actually real, please don’t forget to credit the designer HERMES. Thank You! LOVE, gaga.”

According to media reports, Hermes only makes use of real fur in its outrageously expensive range.

One fan on Gaga’s Little Monsters site commented: “How could you? That’s so messed up, I thought you stood up for better values than fashion at the cost of animal suffering.”

Another said: “So this is another example of you going back on your word. Every day I get just a little more disappointed.”
