CELEBS CELEBRATE GAY MARRIAGE RULINGS

From Madonna to Zachary Quinto, American celebrities have spoken out in their droves to overwhelmingly welcome yesterday’s Supreme Court gay marriage victories.

In a statement, international gay icon, Madonna, said: “What a way to start my day!! I’m wearing a smile from ear to ear. There is a G-D! Justice is served. Hallelujah!!”

Other stars took to twitter to express their support for the rulings. Openly gay celebrities were especially joyous.

“It’s a supremely wonderful day for equality. Prop 8 is over, and so is DOMA. Congratulations everyone. And I mean everyone,” tweeted Ellen DeGeneres, who married her wife Portia de Rossi just before the Prop 8 ban was passed in California.

How I Met Your Mother star, Neil Patrick Harris, who is raising two children with his fianc� David Burtka, tweeted: “Prop 8 was dismissed?!? Huzzah! Christmas comes six months early this year! (Less one day…).”

Zachary Quinto, the openly gay star of Star Trek and American Horror Story said that it was “A great day to be gay! so much gratitude to all the people who fought so hard for this historic milestone. equality forever.”

Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson tweeted that the rulings were a “small but substantial steps toward #MarriageEquality for all!” while Ricky Martin proclaimed that the news meant “Justice for all!”

Fellow gay singer Adam Lambert tweeted: “Down w DOMA! Something to be very proud of this upcoming July 4th. We are making beautiful progress for Equality! #proud”

Anna Wintour, the legendary editor of Vogue magazine, used the opportunity to send her first-ever tweet: “Today’s rulings are a big step forward for all Americans striving to achieve equality. I couldn’t be happier or more proud. �A.W.”

Bette Midler, another gay icon, tweeted: “Surprise benefit of gay marriage to me?? Thousands of weddings where they play “Wind Beneath My Wings”!”

“Historic day. Well done #SCOTUS,” Leonardo DiCaprio tweeted. “RT @GLAAD: Supreme Court affirms that #DOMA is unconstitutional!”

Lady Gaga, a vocal gay rights supporter, said: “We stand tall today.#DomaStruckDown So many fought for so long. Be proud, the prejudice are now the minority.” 

Actor Kevin Spacey, who’s been the subject of rumours about his sexuality for years, tweeted: “What a landmark day for fairness for all. The tide of history sometimes takes a while – today America got it right!”

Joan Rivers added: “Any straight person complaining about the Supreme Court striking down DOMA should be forced to hire a heterosexual wedding planner.”

On Wednesday, the US Supreme Court struck down a section of the DOMA law that barred married gay couples from receiving federal benefits and recognition. It also allowed same-sex marriages to resume in the state of California after a protracted legal battle over the Prop 8 ban.
