SEXY GAY COUNTRY SINGER RELEASES DEBUT VIDEO
Steve Grand, said to be America’s first openly gay male country singer, has released a touching video for his unrequited love song, All-American Boy.
The video, which has almost half a millions views, shows Grand secretly falling in love with a male straight friend, whom he wishes would be his “all-American boy tonight”.
Towards the end, the buff crooner eventually reveals his true feelings to his pal.
“I fought with who I was for most of my life,” The Chicago based Grand wrote on his Facebook page last week. “In every way a young person can fight with himself. But starting today… I’m laying it out there. I’m done playing it safe.”
All-American Boy is his debut track which he has funded himself with money raised through performing.
“I feel like music industry people wouldn’t like the idea of me ‘pigeonholing’ myself by telling this story as I have. But I don’t believe the world sees change until it sees honesty. So I went in on my own,” Grand wrote.
The gorgeous performer said he wrote the song during a drunken piano jam session at a party, recording the vocals in his parents’ basement.
“I went all in. There is no Plan B. I’m nervous/excited/horrified/anxious about the implications all of the choices I am making (and have made throughout my journey of discovering myself as a man and as an artist) will have on my future.
“But then I remind myself I never really had a choice. This is the story I’ve been aching to tell my most of my life… it is what I hold dearest to me.”
While Grand is being touted as the first-ever openly gay country singer, in February 2012, Canadian country artist Drake Jensen announced that he is gay. He is married to partner Sean Michael Morin, who is also his personal manager.
In May 2010, US country singer Chely Wright became the first female country singer in the US to come out as lesbian.
