Good Hope FM presenter in hot water over “homophobic” comment
Good Hope FM radio personality, Celeste Mitchell, has found herself in hot water after a screenshot of a remark that’s been seen as homophobic made the rounds on social media.
A Facebook user by the name of Antonio Maggot Watson first posted a picture of what appears to be a male model wearing a white crop top from ASOS, a British online fashion retailer.
The post includes his caption: “1st skinny jeans and now this shit? Are they trying to take our manhood away next? If any of my family or friends wears shit like this, you are no longer a friend of mine.”
Mitchell then shared the post and, to make matters worse, added her own dubious and potentially homophobic views on the matter, writing: “We are indeed living in the end of times”.
She later deleted her post, but screenshots of the comment soon started circulating on social media – and it was not well received.
I don’t know how a piece of clothing signals the end times for this @GoodHopeFM DJ.
We ought to teach our kids & society they need to be comfortable and happy with whatever they wear, not that it will define them. pic.twitter.com/7Pg3Gzp3b6— Earl-Ryan September (@earlseptember) August 26, 2018
Hi @GoodHopeFM & @FicksB
Could you respond to this statement by @hiphopchick1 presenter of @TheReadyDshow & @WeLoveHipHopcpt founder.
Do you share or condemn her homophobic hate-speech views, inciting violence. https://t.co/OUHE4yXCFP— Earl-Ryan September (@earlseptember) August 29, 2018
Brandan Fix, the radio station’s manager, told Mambaonline that the matter is being investigated but otherwise had no other comment.
Mitchell was also unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
