Johannesburg Pride Reveals First Details of 35th Edition

Pride of Africa has announced the preliminary details for the 35th Johannesburg Pride celebration, along with a series of events scheduled for African Pride Month in October 2024.

The main event, Johannesburg Pride, will on 26 October return to the streets of Sandton which has previously proved to be a popular location.

Marking 35 years of Pride in Africa, this year’s celebration promises to be an unforgettable homage to diversity, unity, and love.

The lineup of events for African Pride Month includes:

4 October | Empowerment Summit
A series of inspiring discussions and workshops focusing on LGBTQ+ empowerment.

12 October | Queer Met Gala featuring Jean Paul Gaultier
An evening of glamour, high fashion, and bold queerness, showcasing the iconic designs of Jean Paul Gaultier.

19 October | Secret Venue featuring Jägermeister
An exclusive event blending art, music, and vibrant self-expression at a secret location.

26 October | Johannesburg Pride 35th Celebration
The grand parade and celebration will take place in Sandton, promising a spectacular culmination of the month’s festivities.

The first Pride march in Africa was held in Johannesburg on 13 October 1990, making this 35th anniversary a significant milestone in the continent’s LGBTQ+ history.
