The 2025 Cape Town Pride Parade and Mardi Gras on Saturday, 1 March, was a vibrant celebration of LGBTIQ+ queerness, love, and inclusion.

Hundreds took to the streets for the annual parade, marking the culmination of a three-week-long series of events held across the city.

This year’s Pride took place in the shadow of tragedy, following the murder of Cape Town’s gay Imam, Muhsin Hendricks, who was gunned down in Gqeberha last month.

The parade concluded at Green Point Track, where the celebrations continued with the Pride Mardi Gras, featuring community stalls and a raft of queer entertainment.

A highlight was a powerful speech by Dr Dion George, South Africa’s out and proud Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, who reflected on past struggles for LGBTIQ+ equality and called for continued advocacy.

Cape Town Pride Ambassador Nkosinathi Sangweni waka Mtshali earlier reflected on the significance of the event, stating that Pride was an opportunity to “honour those who paved the way for our freedoms while holding space for those who, for various reasons, cannot celebrate with us.”
