Farryl Purkiss goes into Private Practice

Our very own hottie, Farryl Purkiss, is making waves in Hollywood. It’s been announced that one of the sexy local singer’s tracks was recently featured on the show Private Practice. The song, Sticks and Stones, was included in an episode broadcast in the States at the end of last month. It’s a pretty big deal considering that the series, a spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy, reaches almost ten million viewers in the US alone. The episode in question will apparently be aired in SA on M-Net later next year.

New Moon Part 1: Robert Pattinson revels in his own filth

As the new Twilight movie New Moon starts to open across the world Robert Pattinson fever is once again gripping the planet. Whatever you may think of the actor he certainly seems to have no qualms about discussing his personal hygiene. In an interview he confirmed previous reports that he’s a bit of a stinker. “These jeans are a few days old, but the top is probably fresh because it gets to the point where even I can’t stand the air around me. I don’t know, my personal hygiene – it’s so disgusting!” Ugh… We agree.

New Moon Part 2: Rob and Kristen

The tabloids and gossip blogs continue to speculate wildly about the romance between Robert Pattinson and co-star Kristen Stewart and we’re beginning to suspect that it’s just another publicity stunt. The old Hollywood studios used to regularly manufacture relationships between co-stars to publicise their movies and we think this is no different. Hot on the heels of denials of a romance by Robert, Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke comes out with an apparent confirmation of one. “After I cast him, I told Rob, don’t even think about having a romance with her. She’s under 18. You will be arrested… But in terms of what Kristen told me directly, it didn’t happen on the first movie. Nothing crossed the line while on the first film. I think it took a long time for Kristen to realise, OK, I’ve got to give this a go and really try to be with this person,” she said. Is there really something going on between those two? Only time will tell.

New Moon Part 3: Taylor Lautner’s wig

New Moon hunk Taylor Lautner has revealed how much he hated having to wear his long fake Twilight hair, which thankfully gets cropped in the new film. Speaking at a press conference promoting New Moon, Taylor said: “It was very itchy, hot, and annoying. It not only was uncomfortable… But when I looked at myself in the mirror, I wouldn’t be able to recognise myself.” He added that on the last day of filming with the wig, “we ripped it off, put it up in the air, and the whole crew gave a standing ovation… It was amazing to take that thing off.” As you can see by this picture (in fact the only reason we posted this story to be honest) he looks much hotter with a shorter do. Yum!

Mariah emotionally abused

Mariah Carey, in the midst of promoting her new album and her performance in the film Precious, has revealed that she has felt emotionally abused in the past. Mariah, who is married to Nick Cannon, was interviewed by Larry King about her thoughts on the Rihanna and Chris Brown incident and when asked if she’d ever been abused, replied: “Abuse has several categories. Emotionally, mentally, in other ways.” The 40 year old singer added, that “I just think you get into a situation and you feel locked in – if your situation is similar to one of the situations I’ve been in, which I won’t harp on”. She went on to talk about her ex husband, Sony Music head Tommy Mottola, suggesting that he was “one of the situations”, saying: “For me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing where the person was in control of my life.” Well, at least life is all better now Mimi!

Charlize ditches trans lovers movie

Charlize Theron has pulled out of the movie The Danish Girl, in which she was going to portray the real life artist Greta Wegener whose husband (set to be played by Nicole Kidman) underwent a sex change operation in 1931 – apparently with her full support. There’s no word why she ditched the project, but we doubt it’s the subject matter – after all Charlize has locked lips with women on (and off) screen before. Gwyneth Paltrow is reportedly set to replace the Benoni gal in the project. Either way, this is going to be one hell of an interesting flick.

Adam Lambert is single

American Idol singer Adam Lambert not only about to ‘drop’ his new album, For Your Entertainment, in the states but he’s also dropped his boyfriend, interior designer Drake LaBry. Actually we don’t know who dumped whom, but the crux of the matter is that Glambert, as some have taken to calling him, is a single man. According to reports the two were recently seen arguing outside a LA hot spot after Adam apparently flirted with another dude. Thankfully, being famous, pretty good looking and very talented all ensure that he’ll no doubt have his pick of the Hollywood gay set. We wonder who the next lucky boy will be?

Is Rihanna’s new album crap?

Well gossip blogger Perez Hilton certainly seems to think so. After listening to some of the tracks on Rated R Perez announced: “Sadly, Rihanna’s new album SUCKS!!!!!!! We soooo saw this coming after all the singles started leaking and being released and they were not special at all.” He went on to add, “SO disappointing!” GQ magazine seems to disagree however, revealing that a number of the songs are influenced by the very public collapse of her relationship with woman-beater Chris Brown. The magazine said that there are “great” songs on the CD, which boasts collaborations with Justin Timberlake and will.i.am. “Rihanna attacked this new album aggressively,” writes Will Welch, adding “She says ‘motherfucker,’ ‘bitches’ and the N-word on it (sorry, Oprah). It’s got violent revenge fantasies. And sex fantasies. Often she seems to be singing directly to Chris Brown. And sonically, it can be brutally dark.” We’re intrigued.
