MIKA COMES OUT (AGAIN)

Award-wining British pop singer and songwriter Mika (born Michael Holbrook Penniman, Jr) has come out as gay after first coming out as bisexual almost three years ago.

In a 2007 interview with Dutch magazine Gay&Night, he refused to comment on his sexuality, stating: “I don’t think it’s relevant, at least not at this stage”.

Two years later, Mika told the same magazine: “I’ve never ever labelled myself. But having said that; I’ve never limited my life, I’ve never limited who I sleep with. So, whatever… Call me whatever you want. Call me bisexual, if you need a term for me.”

Now, speaking to Instinct Magazine for its upcoming September issue, the 28-year-old revealed that he’s finally come to terms with the idea of being labelled as gay.

“If you ask me ‘am I gay?’, I say yeah,” said Mika. “Are these songs about my relationship with a man? I say yeah. And it’s only through my music that I’ve found the strength to come to terms with my sexuality beyond the context of just my lyrics. This is my real life.”

Mika is best known for his 2007 smash hit single Grace Kelly. His new album, The Origin of Love, is set to be released next month.
