FIGHT BRETT GOLDIN ATTACKERS’ PAROLE

Advertorial

Richard Bloom and Brett Goldin

The families of Brett Goldin and Richard Bloom are once again appealing for support in their effort to stop their attackers from being released from prison.

In April 2006, the naked bodies of Goldin (28), a popular actor, and clothing designer Bloom (27) were found in Mowbray, Cape Town. The two men, who were openly gay, had been shot in the head.

Nurshad Davids and Jade Wyngaard were found guilty of the kidnapping, hijacking and armed robbery that led to their murder and were sentenced to 15 years in jail.
Two other accused, Shavaan Marlie and Clinton Davids, pleaded guilty to the murder and were each sentenced to 28 years in prison.

The victims’ families have had to repeatedly relive the horror of the murders thanks to three previous parole hearings in which the first two men, Davids and Wyngaard, were allowed to apply to be released.

The correctional services act requires that they appear once a year before the parole board as standard procedure. In addition, thanks to President Zuma’s presidential amnesty last year, the men have also had six months shaved off their sentence.

The families have set up a petition opposing Davids and Wyngaard’s parole. If they were to be released now, they would have served less than half their original sentence.

“We are sure you will agree that this is both appalling and a travesty of our democracy. We hope that you will take the time to sign this petition and strongly voice your opinion,” said the families.

“These two criminals will appear before the parole board… and it is up to us, the good, law-abiding men and women of South Africa and beyond, to do whatever we can to see that justice prevails.”

Davids and Wyngaard were set to appear before the parole board on 3 July, but this has been postponed 31 July.
