POPULAR ACTIVIST LAID TO REST
Muntuza Masombuka, the much-loved LGBTI activist and personality on Gauteng’s gay scene, was laid to rest on Saturday.
Many will remember the 29-year-old Masombuka thanks his colourful outfits and exuberance during Pride marches in Johannesburg and across the province over the years.
Masombuka, who assisted with communication and marketing for the Ekurhuleni Pride Organising Committee (Epoc), passed away recently after falling ill.
Reflecting the impact he had on many people, his Facebook page has been inundated by messages of disbelief and grief and in celebration of his life.
Hundreds of mourners turned out for the funeral in KwaThema, on Johannesburg’s East Rand.
Many were decked out in their finest fashion forward outfits, something that Masombuka would have undoubtedly appreciated.
“Hamba Kahle Muntu, you have been a blessing to us and a loyal comrade. We thank God for the gift. Till we meet again!” commented Epoc on Facebook.
The Inkanyiso blog has posted an extensive report and images from Masombuka’s funeral.
