mcqp_2014_royal_navyCalling all seamen and naval queens! Mother City Queer Project (MCQP) has announced the theme, date and venue for its 2014 edition!

MCQP revealed that it will be painting Cape Town blue with its “Royal Navy” themed costume party on Saturday 20 December.

Organisers also confirmed a venue change away from the Cape Town Stadium. Instead, MCQP’s twenty-first bash will be a royal affair at the regal Cape Town City Hall and adjacent Grand Parade.

It’s the first time that MCQP will host a party at the venue where, in 1990, Nelson Mandela made his first public speech after spending 27 years in prison.

The theme was announced on Friday at Crew Bar in De Waterkant with special appearances by Lola Fine and Genevieve Le Coq. (Some guests could have sworn that they even saw event director Ian McMahon disguised as the Queen Mother.)

Although there are no VIP tickets this year, there will be 300 limited Royal Enclosure tickets available, which treat holders to an open bar all night (and more entitlements fit for a queen). Eight Royal Boxes will also be available, where party-goers can get their own space for the entire grand performance. Each box holds 20 royals only.

The MCQP team have again decided to open the gates early. Starting from 5pm, revellers will be able enjoy a variety of food stalls before exploring the seven seas.

Ahoy there! A group of MCQP seamen

With the Castle of Good Hope and Table Mountain as the backdrop, guests will be able to submerge themselves in the sounds of local and international DJs and performers.

The main dance floor will be located in the 1905 built Edwardian Cape Town City Hall. The disco, house, cabaret, trance, butterbox, dash some, K.I.S.S Ladies Only and Crew Commercial Captain’s dance floors will be branched out upstairs and on the Grand Parade.

Genevieve Le Coq will be one of the emcees who will have her radar and periscope tuned in to detect some of Cape Town’s most creative costume partygoers. She’ll be joined by several acts like Dean Fuel, Jamie Saint, DJ Chadd, VJ Karl, The Kiffness, Jacques Terre’Blanche, Sam Roy and many more in what has become an iconic Cape Town event.

Tickets can be purchased from www.mcqp.co.za and start from R290 for an October-only early bird special.
