Lulani is hoping to meet a woman with a positive mindset and a lust for life through Boer Soek ’n Vrou

For the first time, a gay woman is among the ten competitors in the Afrikaans dating series Boer Soek ’n Vrou (Farmer Looking for a Wife).

kykNET recently launched the countdown to the 16th season of one of South Africa’s most popular reality shows with the reveal of the 2024 Boer Soek ’n Vrou participants.

This year’s harvest produced farmers aged between 23 and 40 from seven provinces. Two female farmers are among the top 10: Sanel (39) from Dwaalboom and Lulani (40) from Philippolis.

Lulani distinguishes herself from her competitors as the show’s first woman to search for love with another woman.

“I’m really excited and feel privileged to be part of the Boer Soek ‘n Vrou,” she says. “Like the other nine farmers, I hope to meet someone special in the process with whom I could potentially share my life.”

While Lulani – a sheep and cattle farmer – is well aware of her groundbreaker status, it’s not something that she is too preoccupied with when it comes to finding a partner.

“I’m comfortable with my sexuality and don’t really focus on the fact that I’m the first gay woman to participate,” she says. “Unfortunately some people immediately assume that I am doing this to make a ‘statement’ but I am simply just another farmer in search of love.”

In 2019, Boer Soek ’n Vrou featured its first gay male farmer, Damian Engelbrecht. He was the participant who received the most letters from would-be suitors in that year. Unfortunately, he also faced considerable homophobia on social media for taking part in the series.

The public is invited to get to know this year’s participants by visiting kykNET’s website at www.kyknet.tv or viewing their profiles on the popular Afrikaans dating app, KOER. They can then write to the farmer they’d like to go on a date with.

Viewers will then follow the farmers’ journey in their search for love. The bulk of the show will focus on the five farmers who receive the most letters.

Marciel Hopkins will present Boer Soek ’n Vrou for the fourth time, and it will air from July 2024 on kykNET (channel 144 on DStv).

If you’d like to date Lulani, you can send her an email (which can be accompanied by a video) to boer@wolflightsa.com. Potential partners can also send letters or have parcels delivered by courier to one of the following addresses: Boer Soek ’n Vrou, Postnet 211, Private bag X15, Somerset West 7129 or Boer Soek ’n Vrou, 11 Coronation Avenue, Somerset West 7130.

Those who want to write to one of the farmers must be older than 21, single, divorced, or a widow/widower. The closing date for these letters is midnight, 30 November, 2023.
