MCQP Turns 30 with the Mother of All Celebrations
The Mother City Queer Project (MCQP), South Africa’s iconic LGBTQIA+ costume celebration, is set to return for its 30th anniversary with another uniquely-themed outing.
This year’s “Mother of Pearl” theme is set to make waves in Cape Town’s party scene on 14 December 2024 at Gardens Commercial High School.
“For three decades, MCQP has been the gem in the crown of Cape Town’s social calendar, and this year’s pearl-studded extravaganza is set to be a family reunion, bringing together fans of previous parties and those who have yet to experience the magic of MCQP on the most sacred of spaces: the dancefloor,” the organisers said in a media release.
Wondering what to wear? “Mother” promises to unleash an enchanting mix of creatures — think succubi, fairies, nymphs, angels, and aquatic beings — so dive into your imagination for endless costume inspiration.
The event will take over the entire school, giving partygoers a playground to indulge in “extracurricular activities.” Expect an otherworldly escape with top-tier entertainment and packed dance floors.
MCQP will feature four fantastic dance floors: Purgatory, The Divine (powered by Discotekah), The Depth (brought to life by The Death of Glitter), and The Pulse.
If that’s not enough, prepare for the “Sirens of the Deep,” a seductive Sex Siren immersion celebrating queer eroticism and liberation with Cheshire Vineyard.
Since its debut in 1994, MCQP has become a beloved institution celebrating queer joy and visibility in South Africa, cementing its place in the country’s pink legacy.
For the second consecutive year, the event will be curated by new management, with The Golden Hour events team at the helm for the 2024 edition.
Now under the care of a team with over 50 years of combined experience in local and international event production, MCQP is in expert hands.
So, polish up those pearls – it’s time for another night with Mother!
