COWBOY-ROMANCE FLICK WINS AT FESTIVAL

One of the film world’s most coveted awards, the Golden Lion, has been scooped by a gay film. Brokeback Mountain, a movie about two cowboys in love has won the top award at the Venice Film Festival.

Directed by Ang Lee, known for films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Ice Storm, it stars Hollywood hotties Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal as two cowboys who fall in love in the early 1960s.

Brokeback Mountain is a sweeping tale of two men struggling with their romance in a conservative era, and includes some steamy love scenes between the two actors. Ledger has reportedly said that the film is the best love story he’s ever taken on.

Lee told reporters at the festival that, “The love story has good vibes. I hope it will penetrate prejudices.”

The festivals acting men’s award went to David Strathairn for his role in George Clooney’s film, Night and Good Luck while the prize for the best actress was awarded to Giovanna Mezzogiorno for La Bestia nel Cuore.
