“Most desirable man in the word” crowned

We didn’t even know that there was a Mr. World contest. But, it seems, there is. The recent event was held on southern China’s Hainan island, and featured, according to the Daily Telegraph, “men from 56 nations [who] competed in the 21-day event that included tests of style, strength, perseverance, mental agility and determination. Competitors strutted their stuff on the catwalk, climbed mountains, raced bikes and held a cook-off.” Model/actor Juan Garcia Postigo walked off with the title – said by organisers to represent the world’s “most desirable” man. Personally we wouldn’t argue with this description of Juan. The twenty-five-year-old Juan speaks Spanish, Italian and English and his hobbies include fishing, football, water skiing and cooking. His ambition is to develop his career in television as an actor and entertainment presenter. Lucas Gil from Brazil and Jiang Lejun from China were the runners up. The South African contestant, sports coach and model Dieter Voigt, did not place in the contest.

Fergie’s lesbian past

Black Eyed Peas singer and chart-topping solo artist Fergie (real name Stacy Ferguson) has spilled the bean (or at least some of them) about her dalliances with other ladies. Promoting her role in the new Tarantino film Grindhouse she said that, “I have had lesbian experiences in the past. But I started having sex quite late on – after I was 18. I was raised a good Catholic girl.” She went on to add that “I won’t say how many men I have slept with, although it’s not many, but I am a very sexual person.” In another interview – with Playboy magazine – the sexy-scary star revealed that she sometimes gets her boyfriend – the droolable Josh Duhamel – to dance for her. “He just dances for me in private, in some very interesting outfits,” she says. Us, jealous? Never!

Top fifty gays in the US named

A host of celebs have been included in Out magazine’s list of the Top 50 Gays in the US. Interestingly, some of these aren’t actually officially out – a fact which has raised eyebrows. David Geffen, the openly gay movie and media mogul, is at number one, but he is followed by allegedly closeted CNN reporter Anderson Cooper. While some might say that his sexuality is something of an open secret, the grey-haired Anderson has refused to confirm or deny that he is gay. Actress Jodie Foster, who is listed at no 43, is also not publicly out. Other notables in the list include talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres at number three, actress and TV host Rosie O’Donnell at six, designer Marc Jacobs at eight, gossip blogger Perez Hilton (17), designer Tom Ford (23), photographer Annie Leibovitz (29), Superman Returns director Bryan Singer (32) and drag adult film director Chi Chi LaRue (36).

Rod Steward’s son frolics in the buff

For some reason crooner Rod Steward’s son, Sean, decided to strip naked at the beach in Malibu, California and go for a swim. Of course the paparazzi was conveniently not far away. We have some of the resulting images on the right. Sean also recently revealed that he would pleasure himself while thinking of his father’s ex-wife Rachel Hunter (who thankfully was not his mother). Innocent joking around or a desperate attempt to garner media attention to promote his new reality show Sons of Hollywood? You decide. Perhaps the crotch-flashing trend made commonplace by Britney Spears and her ilk will become popular with male celebs? If so, we certainly hope that they will have more to offer than Sean.

Keith Richards’ bizarre confession

Now we know that the Rolling Stones really lived it up in the heyday of the sex, drugs and rock n’ roll era, but guitarist Keith Richards may have gone a little too far for our taste. The wrinkly rocker recently told NME that the strangest thing he ever tried to snort was his father: “He was cremated and I couldn’t resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn’t have cared – he didn’t give a shit. It went down pretty well. And I’m still alive.” Following a predictable furore, Keith’s publicist has since claimed that it was all said in jest: “Can’t believe anyone took [it] seriously.” Oddly enough, we do.

Madonna is still the ‘material girl’

Say what you will about Madonna – and be careful: we’re fans here at Mamba Towers – the woman knows one or two things about bringing home the bacon. The recent international launch of her “M by Madonna” clothing line at fashion chain H&M (which can be found in just about very country in the world except South Africa) has proven to be a massive success. According to reports, the line, which saw stampedes at its launch in some cities, has sold more than $15 million worth of goods in little more than a week. Paid $8 million to design and market the range, she’s apparently been asked to design another two collections for H&M. If that weren’t enough, she earned $15 for appearing in a recent Japanese TV and print campaign for a new development on Tokyo’s waterfront. Nice work, if you can get it…

Perez Hilton’s double standards

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton has become a celebrity in his own right over the last year or so. His rather nasty – but often insightful – comments on the lives of the famous and foolish entertain millions on the net. He’s also known for doing his best to out celebrities who are in the closet – like Lance Bass – often expressing outrage they refuse to come clean about their sexuality. Now he himself is coming under flack for his apparent double standards since he’s begun to spend time socialising with the celebs that he writes about. A case in point: Perez has been unusually quiet about the fact that his pal Mika – the sexually ambiguous pop star – refuses to confirm that he’s gay. Commentators are wondering if the edgy blogger has sold out in return for invites, free food and getting chummy with celebs at parties and launches.
