TOILET SCANDAL SENATOR RESIGNS

Advertorial

Larry Craig, the US Republican senator who was arrested for disorderly conduct in a men’s toilet, will resign from the Senate, he announced at a press conference on Saturday.

“I apologise for what I have caused… I am deeply sorry,” he said.

Sixty two year old Craig, who represents the state of Idaho, pled guilty to the charge in early August following an incident at the Minneapolis airport toilets in which a plainclothes policeman alleged that Craig solicited him for sex.

Craig subsequently denied that he had done anything wrong, saying that the incident was a misunderstanding and that he had only pled guilty to resolved the matter “quickly and expeditiously.”

He has also insisted that, “I am not gay. I never have been gay.”

Nevertheless, members of his party, afraid that the scandal will offend their conservative constituency in next year’s elections, have placed considerable pressure on Craig to resign.

Craig’s resignation will be effective as from the end of the month.
