The British Royal Family has been rocked by an alleged tape showing an unnamed royal in a gay sexual situation.
According to the Sunday Times newspaper, which broke the story, the Royal Household went to Scotland Yard’s kidnap and blackmail unit, with the claim that the royal in question was being blackmailed. He had apparently been contacted by the men on August 2.
The alleged blackmailers had apparently claimed to have a tape of the royal receiving oral sex from an aide. The blackmailers also claimed to have proof that the royal had supplied cocaine to the aide and other footage of the aide snorting cocaine.
Last month, Police undertook a sting operation at the Hilton Hotel in London in which two men, Ian Strachan and Sean McGuigan, were arrested on charges of blackmail. It has been alleged that they were demanding £50,000 in return for not releasing the tape to the public.
Although the name of the royal has not been released, and has been sealed by the court, it is understood that he is not a senior or well-known member of the Royal Family, which consists of around 40 people.
The alleged blackmailers appeared in court on September 13 ‘in camera’, with the judge issuing a court order forbidding the publishing of any information that could identify the victim.
Strachan will apply for bail in court this week in private, with both men, who are currently in custody, scheduled to appear in court again on December 20.
Buckingham Palace has refused to comment on matter, stating only that it is a matter for the police.
